There is every likelihood of a total of nine road projects in the state including the Kundapur-Suratkal four-laning project, being confined to the cold storage in the backdrop of the Union Government warning of freezing Central aid to national highway projects in the state if the state delayed any further the land acquisition process for the projects.
The Railway Budget presented by Union Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday has referred to ‘Mangalore,’ though the actual benefit of the proposed projects would be the neighbouring Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Though there is a proposal for new trains and survey for new rail routes in the coastal belt, rest of the schemes mentioned in the budget are not at all complementary to the railway demands of the region.
“I have gone through the permits granted to the Nagarjuna project from the government and have found several discrepancies in them,” said Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt.
A student of the Mulki Vijaya College sustained serious injuries in yet another mishap involving a tipper near the Padupanambur bus stand on Wednesday.
Villagers of Padubidri with the backing of political leaders staged a protest at the Majoor Circle here by blocking vehicular movement on Wednesday morning demanding stern action against the driver and owner of the tipper which caused an accident killing Samreena (15), a student of Shirva St Mary’s Pre-Univeristy College, due to rash and negligent driving. The agitators also demanded compensation to the family of the deceased girl.

A 14 year old boy has been reported missing from the orphanage run by the Hi-Tech Hospital in Udupi. This is the second such missing case from this orphanage in the recent past.
