Light vehicles to be permitted on Shiradi  Ghat stretch from Aug 1

Light vehicles will be permitted to ply on the Shiradi Ghat stretch of the Mangaluru-Bengaluru Highway from August 1 onwards, while heavy vehicles will be allowed on the stretch from August 10 onwards. The Shiradi Ghat stretch was closed since January this year to facilitate upgradation of the road the condition of which has been turning from bad to worse with the passing of every year.

The total ban on sand mining, storage and transportation in the district from June 15 to August 31 following a directive from Union Environment Ministry has hit hard building contractors.
