UDUPI : UR Sabhapathi, former legislator and the President of the UPCL Hatao Andolan
Samithi, Deviprasad Shetty, its Principal Convener and Somanath Nayak, Convener, in a
joint press release have said that it was wrong to criticize or hurl allegations against Sri
Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt over the UPCL issue as the seer had not
said at any time that he would lead the agitation against UPCL. He had been only airing
his personal views on the issue with the media, on occasions, they said.
?The UPCL Hatao Committee backs the farmers in their aim to close dorm the UPCL as
talks with UPCL officials or hearing their explanations was of no use. But the Samithi is
against accusing or criticizing anyone else on personal grounds, ? they said.
? We hope that the government would at least now wake up to the situation and take
steps to mitigate the hardships faced by the people owing to the project. If that is not the
case, then the government itself is to be blamed for any eventuality,? they further warned.
