MANGALORE : The State High Court has ordered reinduction and regularization of
services of five women who were employed a sweepers in Mangalore University.
Roshan Veigas, Dulshin Monteiro, Sharada, Prema and Veronica D?Souza were working
as sweepers in Mangalore University since 1983-1984 on contract basis. But the
University administration had terminated their services in the year 2000.
Finding no other way, the illiterate women had moved the High Court .
The court in its ruling in 2009 had directed regularization of services of 22 women who
were working in various divisions of the university on contract basis.
But the University had laid down minimum educational qualification as a condition for
regularization their services. Accordingly, only eight women were re-inducted.
But the five women who were deprived of a job again moved the High Court and
requested that they be exempted from the minimum educational qualification rule
considering their poverty background. The court had then ruled in favour of the women.
But the university had moved the court challenging the ruling forcing the aggrieved
women to stage a dharna in front of the University administrative block from December
12, 2009. Now the High Court has once again ruled in favour of the women securing
them justice at last.
