BANGALORE : The State High Court has upheld a government order banning movement of ore lorries in Dakshina Kannada district and dismissed a petition filed by
a certain Neeraj Chowdhury requesting to quash the government order on the grounds that it had affected the livelihood of the truckers and their families.
The government had justified the ban which it said was enforced in public interest as 69 people had lost their lives in accidents in the past eight months owing to the rash driving by the ore lorry drivers. Moreover, the government had also argued that the entry of three ore lorries into the district every minute had even created traffic problems.
