UPPPINANGADY: Generally, it is the farmers who put up thorny fencing to protect their
agricultural fields from trespassing of animals. But in a queer case, the National Highway
Department has erected a similar fencing to the Kootelu mini bridge that is known as an
accident zone.
It may be recalled here that a bus driver was killed and several passengers injured when a
KSRTC bus had plunged into the river after dashing against this bridge recently. Though
the bridge had claimed as many as 20 lives until now, it is nothing but a tragedy that the
government has not yet taken steps to repair this bridge.
In the latest instance, the authorities without taking any concrete steps to repair the side
railings of the bridge, have chosen to wash their hands off the problem by just erecting a
temporary fencing.
