MANGALORE: A clash between two rival groups was reported in the Katipalla Jumma
Masjid during a felicitation function that was organized to bid a farewell to Mohammad
Sharief who served as Khatib in the masjid for nearly nine years. The clash broke out
after one group objected to felicitating the khatib with a shawl utilizing the masjid funds.
The felicitation function was organized by the Jamaat administrative officer BS
Hussainabba Jokatte. It has been alleged that Abdul Khader and others unnecessarily
raked up a controversy resulting in the clash. A complaint has been lodged in Suratkal
station against two persons namely Baava and Kaladar.
It has been alleged that Bava who was interfering in the masjid administration was once
earlier prohibited from entering the masjid for six years, with the term later reduced to six
months.
The Wakf Board has even appointed an administrative officer to the masjid after the
erstwhile management was dismissed on charges of irregularities. It is also said that the
dismissed management was unnecessarily interfering in the administration of the masjid.
