UDUPI: The factors for the recent unsuccessful escapade of an under trial from the
Udupi District Prison at Kajaraguttu near Hiriadka, has now come to light. If reports
are to be believed, the dereliction of duty of the jail superintendent, had itself led to the
escape bid.
Krishna Marakala of Mogaveerapete who had been arrested on charges of murdering a
woman named Susheela of Kadoor village had recently escaped and was subsequently
arrested.
But what has been gathered is that the Jail Superintendent SKPS Ambekar had taken
Krishna and another under trial outside the jail compound to get his domestic chores done
in his government quarters which is outside the jail compound. This, it is learnt, helped
Krishna to escape easily. Later he was apprehended when he was sitting inside a bus
going towards Brahmavar at the Udupi service bus stand.
Krishna has been accused of raping Susheela and then killing her. He was arrested on
March 2 and a few months ago had even attempted suicide in the jail.
