KARWAR: It has come to light quite late that an attempt to terrorize Karwar’s Deputy
Conservator of Forests who was instrumental in detecting the illegal ore export case at
Belekeri, was made recently when a Scorpio vehicle was found chasing the DCF’s car.
The latest case has even given room for doubts if this was a ploy to eliminate the officer.
When Gokul was proceeding towards Karwar from Sirsi on July 13, a silver colour
Scorpio vehicle had followed his car near Mirzan on the National Highway. The Scorpio
vehicle which moved behind the DCF’s car at times, also overtook it and moved ahead
slowly. It has been learnt that the registration number of this vehicle began from K 37.
It is not known if there was some intention to cause an accident at some curve. Reports
also say that the DCF’s car was chased even near Shiroor, Baleguli and Harawada Ghat
area. The driver who felt something fishy had intimated the DCF and the number was
duly noted down.
Meanwhile, there have even been reports of suspicious looking persons lurking around
the DCF’s residence and even trying to enter his house.
It is believed DCF Gokul, known as an honest officer was thinking in terms of going in
for a legal recourse.
On the other hand, Uttara Kannada SP Raman Gupta has said that though the incident
has come to the notice of the department, so far there has been no complaint. He however
said the police have spoken over telephone with the DCF. He also assured of a thorough
probe if a complaint was lodged.
