Let Mayor quit and face probe

City Mayor Rajani Dugganna should have tendered her resignation to her post and set
a good trend instead of complaining to the police commissioner and the DC against the
media which had published the reports on the diesel theft scam, in a vain bid to defend
her son involved in the same.
She could have gone even one step ahead and demanded a CoD probe into the case, in a
bid to come out clean in this case. If not that, she should have been at least ready to face a
probe from a team of reputed citizens.
As if to prove that counter allegation was the best remedy to an allegation, she by
passing the blame on the media which had only reported facts, has proved that she lacked
commitment to the society and has also failed to uphold the honour of the coveted post
that she is holding.
The fact that is most embarrassing in this entire episode is that the ruling BJP has so far
not reacted to this incident in any manner. Though there is nothing which the ruling party
can say, it could have at least shown it commitment by admitting the guilt and assuring to
get some probe undertaken.
The one thing which stands exposed in this entire case is that the police officials are
ready to go to any extent to appease the ruling politicians. Inspite of the fact that the
stolen diesel was seized from the mayor’s residence itself, the u-turn of the police
officials in not registering a case in a bid to shield the mayor and her son, and even
rebuking the media which sought details, is shameful.
The Panambur DySP also made it inevitable for the scribes to lodge a complaint with the
Police Commissioner when no action was taken even when a media man was attacked by
the Bhajrangis right in front of the Suratkal police station.
Here I have to mention that no action followed against the Bajpe SI Pramod even after a
complaint was lodged against him with the IGP for attacking a TV journalist.
Though the Panambur DySP Girish is known as a straightforward officer, the recent few
incidents that have taken place in his jurisdiction, have been a blot on his image.
The way Girish handled the Preetham kidnap case, which can be termed honour killing,
spoiled the no-nonsense image which he earlier enjoyed.
Of late, the police force here instead of working to protect public interest is all the more
interested in protecting the interests of the ruling party and Sangh Parivar. It has become
a habit for them to rebuke the media which throws a volley of questions on them. The
new Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh can not remain a silent spectator to all
this.
