UDUPI: It has come to light of late that a personnel of the Udupi SP office had slapped an ASI of Udupi town police station in public recently.

The accused has been identified as Vishwanath Galagali, clerk in the SP office, while the victim is ASI Madhava.

The incident is said to have taken place when the ASI was dispersing the crowd which had gathered in front of a hotel near Triveni circle where a minor accident between a tempo and a bike had taken place and the two sides were reconciliating. The clerk who arrived at the place all of a sudden slapped the ASI even as public was dumbstruck following this development.

Though even the ASI tried to give a befitting reply to the clerk in the same language, he was prevented and pacified by another cop.

Meanwhile, it has been gathered that the sub inspector of Udupi traffic police station Ganesh has threatened Madhava from lodging a complaint against Vishwanath solely for the reason that both Vishwanath and Ganesh were close friends.

It is learnt ASI Madhava has brought this matter to the notice of DySP Jayanth Shetty.
