MANGALORE : Members of the 18 per cent reserve fund project implementation action committee staged a protest in the city on September 8 opposing the inaction of the city corporation in effectively implementing the scheme.
Addressing the meeting, Sunil Kumar Bajal, city unit Secretary of the CPIM accused the city corporation of unnecessarily harassing the Dalit beneficiaries in distributing various facilities under the scheme.
He also charged the corporation of doing injustice to the Dalit community and added the achievements of the MCC administration since the past two decades has been nil.
Krishnappa Konchady, District Committee Member of the CPIM, Muneer Katipalla, DYFI District President, corporator Jayanthi B Shetty, and others participated in the protest.
Commissioner comes rushing to accept memorandum
No sooner the protest ended, the Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Vijay Kumar wasted no time and arrived at the spot of the agitation to accept the memorandum from the agitators.
Here it may be worth recalling that the infamous lathi charge took place outside the MCC office some time back after the DYFI and Left party activists agitating against the water rate hike had placed forth a demand that the mayor himself has to come to accept memorandum from them.
