MANGALORE : The Karnataka Information Commission has served a show cause notice to BM Ravindra, Deputy Director of the Department of Mines and Geology of Mangalore asking why a penalty of Rs 25000 should not be imposed on him for delay in furnishing information to an RTI applicant.

Earlier, K Muralidhar Bhat of Udupi Marpalli had sought information under RTC with the Deputy Director of the Department of Mines and Geology, with regard to the time required to stop illegal quarrying using gelatins in Korangrapady village of Udupi, on the basis of separate letters by Home Minister VS Acharya, Environment Minister Krishna Palemar, and Udupi Tahsildar. But, the Deputy Director who failed to respond, even gave a false statement before the Information Commission that he had provided the information to the applicant on December 15, 2008.
