Burqa row in Ganapathi College

MANGALORE: The act of SSLC exam invigilators directing Muslim students appearing for the examinations to remove burqa and then write their exams at a college in Mangalore has now kicked off a row.

Ganapathi College in Mangalore too being one of the SSLC exam centres, the Muslim students who appeared for the exam on the first day were not asked to remove their burqa. But during the exams on April 5, a lady supervisor, forced a lady student from Jokatte to remove her burqa and then write the exams When the girl informed the matter to her parents, they arrived at the college on Tuesday and questioned the management.

Campus Front of India sources revealed that the college staff while saying such incident would not be repeated had also requested the parents not to divulge the matter before anyone.

Still, later on the supervisors reportedly asked the Muslim students to appear for exams after removing the burqa.

The students along with Campus Front and other organizations are expected to meet the Deputy Director of Public Instructions and apprise him of the matter.
