Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesha has said that the setting up of a Special Agricultural Zone on the lines of a Special Economic Zone is under consideration.
The Deputy Commissioner who was addressing a meeting of farmers held at his office was responding to an appeal by farmer leaders on setting up of a Special Agricultural Zone in the backdrop of the increasing overseas demand for locally grown vegetables and flowers.
The Deputy Commissioner said a Committee comprising agriculturists, officials and farmers would be constituted to study the feasibility of such a Zone. The Committee will have to submit its report in two months, he said adding the district administration was ready to provide suitable land for the proposed zone.
On a complaint that some hospitals were charging over and above the prescribed limit from patients who undergo treatment under Yashaswini scheme, the DC said a meeting of the officials registered under the scheme would be convened and suitable instructions would be given.
