Mangaluru : Toll gates have been a subject matter of controversies prior to their commencement and even after they commenced operations. Recently, the Sasthan toll gate staff in Udupi district were accused of assaulting a commuter who picked up a quarrel after the gate at the toll gate fell on his car.
Though the toll booth authorities denied assaulting the commuter, a person named Prabhaker Shetty who sustained injuries in his eyes, hands and legs lodged a complaint with the police.
Earlier, a woman from Suratkal too was reportedly abused by the toll booth staff.
In a latest instance reported on May 22, Monday, the staff at the Talapady toll plaza attacked a man named Ansar (28) of Talapady who was on way to Talapady from Mangaluru in a Xylo car with three others. It is said that the staffers Deekshith and Kaushik assaulted Ansar when the latter picked up a quarrel. Sources said the occupants of the car said they would not pay toll as they were locals. However the toll booth staff were unrelenting as the car had a Maharashtra registration number leading to the quarrel.
Police have arrested the two accused toll booth employees following the incident.
