Udupi : The long standing demand for the renovation of the clock tower in the heart of the town, is expected to be a reality soon, with the authorities taking up the work recently as rains have subsided in the past few days.
It is expected that the clock tower beautification works would be complete in about a month’s time. Lack of proper maintenance works all these years had taken a toll on the clock tower which is one of the landmarks of the town.
The Udupi CMC will be spending around Rs 15.80 lakhs towards the renovation and an additional Rs 1 lakh towards electricity facility.
Meanwhile, some criticisms are also heard regarding the ongoing renovation works. Gujjadi Prabhaker Nayak, a former resident of Udupi CM said the renovation works are being undertaken without any proper planning. He also stressed that the renovation of the clock tower should be taken up keeping in mind the traffic density on the road from Clock Tower to Triveni Circle.
