Truck Terminal proposal at APMC Yard may not be a reality

Mangaluru : The APMC Yard Development Committee has already resolved that the 80.88 acre land in the Yard should not be used for any other purpose except agricultural purposes. The resolution was also sent to the State Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture who in turn wrote to the Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim who is also the Administrative Officer of APMC stating that the truck terminal should not be set up at the Yard.
A former member of the APMC who has welcomed the decision said they would not hesitate to move the court in case the land was provided for non-agricultural purposes.
It may be recalled here that at a meeting held a few months ago under the leadership of DK’s in-charge Secretary Bharathlal Meena, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim had suggested using the APMC Yard to set up a truck terminal as traders from Bunder area were not ready to shift operations to the APMC yard and also in the wake of the severe traffic problem in Baikampady, New Mangalore and other nearby areas. But the proposal had met with stiff opposition from farmers’ organisations.
