Udupi : A Sociology student from Manipal has prepared a documentary portraying the difficult lives of the nearly 150 workers of the last tile factory of the district which has been closed. Titled ‘Murida Hanchu’ this documentary by Melwyn Mathew Thomas aims at helping the workers to better their lives by ensuring rehabilitation facilities for them.
The documentary of 50 minutes duration narrates not only the ordeal of the former workers of a tile factory, but also the factors that led to the closure of the three tile factories in the district, the rise in production costs etc.
The documentary is expected to be screened at the Gangubai Hanagal Auditorium in Manipal on March 3.
“I have prepared the documentary on a topic that has been neglected by many,” says Melwyn who hopes the screening of the documentary would enable talks between the owners of the now closed tile factory and the workers.
Apart from Melwyn, as many as 12 other persons too have put in concerted efforts in making this documentary.
