Children pour in grievances at Child Rights meet

Mangaluru : The special gram sabha on Child Rights held at the Belmannu GP auditorium in Karkala saw the participation of students from over 200 schools who aired grievances galore.
Some of the problems highlighted by the students include lack of water for preparation of mid-day meals in school, to provide zebra crossing on the road close by the school, check blaring horns of vehicles and stringent action on those who dump wastes on roadsides. There were even appeals to repair borewells of schools, asphalt approach roads etc.
Jayashree Bhat, psychiatrist who spoke as a resource person gave useful information to the children about child trafficking, environment protection and child abuse.
Panchayat Development Officer Shanker replied to the various queries of the students and assured solution in phases. Gram Panchayat President Srilatha presided over the function.
