MANGALORE: A cold war has presently ensued between the Udupi MP DV Sadananda Gowda and the State Home Minister VS Acharya, after DVS issued a statement saying the state government had failed in tackling the Naxal problem.
Following Acharya’s recent statement that “There ws no need to declare red alert in the state as the Naxal activities in the state were negligible compared to other states of the nation,” Sadananda Gowda has issued a press statement saying “The state Home Minister must admit the fact that the state government has failed to control the Naxal activities in the state. At least, the state government has not even submitted a report on the Naxal activities properly to the Centre. It is owing to this that the Centre has not included Karnataka in the list of states affected by Naxal menace.”
However Acharya has responded to Gowda’s allegation by saying “Naxal activities in the state have reduced. The state was also submitting reports to the Centre on a time to time basis. An international security division has also been opened. Internal terrorists and other extremist organizations would come under the purview of this division.”
What has made DVS angry?
According to BJP sources, the former State BJP chief and the sitting Udupi MP Sadananda Gowda has a grouse against the Home Department led by the Udupi MLC VS Acharya. It seems the police department in the district had cared least for Sadananda Gowda who was an ‘ordinary man’ for Mangalore, even while he was holding the State BJP Chief’s post.
Even the recent burglary in the Puttur residence of DV Sadananda Gowda even when the residence had police protection, has proved to be a bone of contention between the two, as Gowda has burnt his hands by keeping valuables worth crores in his Puttur residence, by having faith in the police security. Gowda, it is said strongly feels that the failure of the police men of Acharya to trace the burglars of his house, was nothing but an insult to him. Thus the brewing resentment against Acharya over the burglary incident, has surfaced in the statements against the state government on the Naxal issue.
