Alva’s institutions fail to declare holiday after UR Ananthamurthi demise

MOODBIDRI : It has been gathered that the Alva’s educational institutions at Moodbidri conducted classes as usual on August 23, Saturday, though the state government had declared a holiday to all educational institutions and government offices on that day as a mark of respect to the departed Jnanapeeth Award winning writer Dr. U.R. Ananthamurthi.
Years ago, Ananthamurthi had inaugurated the Alva’s Nudisiri programme. But ironically, the institutions chose not to declare holiday on account of the senior writer’s demise. In fact, a couple of local TV channels had aired news in this regard.
The stance of the management of the Alva’s institutions has certainly pained the admirers of the late writer. Questions are now being raised as to what purpose the literary activities organised by the institutions serve when it has failed to give its due respect to one of the acclaimed writers of the state.
