Clarification on Ganesha Katte row

This is a clarification with regard to the report on the ‘Ganeshana Katte’ row published in The Canara Times on August 6. As mentioned in the report, the statement of Sunny D’Souza that the building near the Ganeshana Katte belonged to Kishore Rai is far from truth. The building was constructed by Sunny D’Souza himself in 1996 when he was the Ganeshotsava Samithi member. Still the Samithi objected to it. Later he was shunted from the Samithi on the grounds that his activities were not transparent. Since then the building was not rented out to anyone and was used only during Ganesha festival It also did not have door number and electricity connection and therefore earned no revenue. When during the Airport road widening the MCC evicted the illegal shop and other buildings constructed by D’Souza near the Marakada bus stand, he had the suspicion that it were we who had complained.
When the students of the Nobel School run by him used to present programmes during Ganeshotsava cultural event, even parents of Muslim children used to participate. This was objected by him and he had seen to it that the students of the school did not take part in the function. Therefore, a request to the MCC to vacate all unauthorised constructions.

Kishore Rai,
Marakada, Mangalore
