Shakuntala Shetty directs officials to respond to needs of rain affected people

PUTTUR : Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty has issued clear-cut instructions to the officials to respond to the problems of the people affected by natural calamities.
Participating in an emergency meeting of taluk level officials convened at the TP auditorium here in connection with the recent rain related damages, the MLA made it a point to the officials to visit the affected places immediately and distribute compensation at the earliest.
She also questioned MESCOM officials present at the meeting over the electricity problem that has cropped up as also the water problem in various areas following heavy rains.
Responding to the MLA’s question, the officer Narayana Poojari said as many as 400 electric poles were damaged due to the recent strong winds and heavy rains. The problem was more in rural areas where more number of poles were destroyed, A total of 150 electric poles were damaged in urban areas, he said and informed that transformers too have been damaged in some places.
Meanwhile, there are complaints that excluding the tahsildar no other officer was accessible to the people in times of emergencies.
