SUBRAHMANYA: Residents of Subrahmanya and surrounding areas have placed forth a demand before the district administration to construct a suspension bridge across the Kumaradhara river considering the hardships faced by the residents as well as devotees visiting the pilgrim shrine of Subrahmanya when the existing Kumaradhara Bridge submerges during heavy rains.
The villagers pointed out that whenever the bridge submerges, pilgrims trapped on either side of the road remain stranded for hours together without any information regarding the alternate route. Even school children, labourers and people working in several establishments in the vicinity are hit hard.
They also stated that it was indeed regretting to note that devotees visiting one of the richest shrines in the whole state, have to suffer inconvenience during monsoon.
A local resident who says that he had suffered problems as many as six times when the bridge submerged this time, has requested the Government and the department concerned to rise to the occasion and make alternate arrangements.
