VITTAL : A couple from Vittal engaged in organic farming, are today subject to a lot of agony after the government which had selected Suresh Gowda for the “Krishi Panditha Award” for the year 2008 had failed to give due respect to the farmer, by presenting the award at the hands of the chief minister at Bangalore. It is learnt though Gowda was supposed to receive the award from the CM, it was later on decided to present the award at a hobali level programme of the agricultural department.
Speaking to pressmen in the town recently, the farmer couple explained the mental agony suffered by them and also pointed out how the departmental officials were now frequenting their door steps pressurizing them to accept the cash award of Rs 25000.
After the attempt to confer the award at a hobali level function, the district minister had even tendered an apology to the farmer on behalf of the government.
“I have been working for the Sangh Parivar since the past 18 years and have even done coolie works to eke out a living, for three months. When I was selected for the award, I thought my life would become meaningful when I would receive the award at the hands of the CM. But today I am a dejected man. No farmer should suffer like me,” Suresh Gowda said.
“ There was no need for Palemar to tender an apology. We had not pleaded for any award. It were they themselves who had chosen us for the award. Now they have to keep up their words and if they want to confer the award, let the CM himself present the award to me. ”
“ We have engaged in organic farming to lead a happy life and not for the sake of awards,” Gowda further said and made it clear that he would accept the award from none else but the Chief Minister.
