MANGALORE : A clash between the CPIM activists and BJP workers ensued near the Urva Marigudi in the city on Tuesday when the CPIM was taking out a vehicle jatha to protest against price rise and to demand ration cards for all. The jatha is being held as a prelude to the huge movement to be organized by the party in January in this regard.
The jatha in the city which was inaugurated on Monday was passing through Urva Market Marigudi areas on Tuesday and the party leader Sunil Kumar Bajal in is usual style was launching a scathing attack on the BJP government in the state. Hand outs were also being distributed to the public.
On this occasion, it is said a BJP minorities wing office bearer Franklin Montheiro and other BJP workers of Bajpe namely Anil, Padma, Anitha and others forcibly snatched the handouts and tried to disturb peace. It is also said that they came in the way of the speech saying it was their area and any speech against the BJP government would not be tolerated. This led to a heated exchange of words between Montheiro and Sunil Kumar resulting in a fracas. The CPIM team which again arrived at the venue a little later, continued its verbal attack on the government
Reports said the BJP activists were well prepared to come in the way of the jatha in Urvastores area. Several writings on the wall publicizing the jatha, were found smeared with tar.
Reacting to this, DYFI city unit secretary Ramesh Kumar said such acts cannot curb the movement and added the DYFI would take such incidents as a challenge.
