MANGALORE: District Superintendent of Police Subrahmanyeshwara Rao has recently dismissed three staff of the special crime detection squad popularly known as the SP Squad. The axed personnel have been identified as David, Shaji and Sunil. It is said that the action followed the several allegations being faced by some personnel of the Squad. It is worth mentioning here that the Squad at the same time has even won appreciation for busting several cases.
The Squad is headed by Mangalore rural sub-inspector Prakash who has been in the news ever since he took charge as the Squad chief, by facing allegation of human rights violation. It is also said that even the police constables of the squad who do not come under any police station limits have been behaving in a dictatorial fashion following which several complaints were lodged against them.
As far as the dismissed trio are concerned, they were facing allegations of hafta collection from several bars and rowdy elements, in the name of the squad. They were even accused of committing atrocities on minorities.
It is also being said that these three had even played an important role in the police brutality on NSUI district chief Tejaswiraj following which the NSUI leader had complained to the Human Rights Commission, SP and Western Range IGP. Reports now indicate that it was this complaint itself that finally led to the dismissal of the three personnel.
