MANGALORE : The CWC chairperson Hilda Rayappan has been suspended close on the heels of the CWC complaint against the Department of Women and Child Development officials accusing them of stealing five files from the CWC office.
Last month Hilda Rayappan had been served a showcause notice questioning why she should not be suspended, citing several allegations. It is believed that the main grouse against Rayappan was that the CWC had not settled the cases pertaining to complaints against the Sangh Parivar, in favour of those at the helm of affairs.
Ever since the BJP government came to power, the Parivar organisations were interfering in the activities and functioning of CWC through the Child Welfare Department officials, even though the CWC has magisterial powers as far as matters pertaining to children’s rights and their protection is concerned. However, when the CWC failed to bow to pressure, several allegations were levelled and notices served. Interestingly, the CWC led by Hilda Rayappan was awarded the best CWC of the state award by the very same Department of Women and Child Welfare last year.
The Dakshina Kannada CWC is headed by Hilda Rayappan for the second term. Despite lack of several amenities the CWC here had rescued several children in danger and had registered cases against the guilty.Sources revealed that the suspension of the CWC chairperson has been made in a haste even prior to announcing verdicts pertaining to several important cases.
In the meantime, Narendra Swami, State Minister for Women and Child Welfare has assured a thorough probe into the complaint against the Department of Women and Child Welfare officials accused of stealing five files of the CWC.
When Kavoor police were questioned as to why no arrests had been made in connection with the case, they said a senior officer of the department of women and child welfare had written a letter to the police department stating that the department had the right to take files from the CWC office.”As there was confusion regarding the case, the arrests have not been made. However, chargesheet has been filed in the court,” Kavoor police informed.
