MANGALORE : A clash that ensued between a few tourists and the security guard at the amusement park at Pilikula on August 20, Monday, forced the police to resort to a lathi charge to quell the mob.

August 20, being a public holiday on account of Ramzan, a record over 3000 people had visited the water park. The clash ensued after a tourist who was playing in water slipped and hurt himself. A few were said to have been injured during lathi charge.

Meanwhile, a complaint that is heard is that the failure to ensure adequate security arrangements, particularly during holidays when there is a heavy inflow of visitors, is said to be the reason for the problem.

Jayaprakash Bhandari, Director of Pilikula Biological Park has said the careless swimming had resulted in head injuries to a tourist and that the clash took place when tourists took a security staff to task. He also said the security duty has been assigned to a private contractor.

Oswald Pinto, Managing director of the amusement park meanwhile has sought an apology on behalf of the security staff who lost his patience and picked up a quarrel with tourists.

However, no police case has been registered.
