KARKALA : The Public Works Department has finally cleared the thick bushes and shrubs on either side of the Sanoor- Chilimbi Highway, which were obstructing free movement of vehicular traffic .

The works had begun all along the stretch from Sanoor-Chilimbi to Beluvai Cross, considered an accident zone, on August 18. Earlier, the residents of the area had complained that the bushes were itself the main cause of many an accident as the vehicles coming from opposite direction were invisible

The Canara Times and Karavali Ale had also carried reports in this regard mentioning how the row over jurisdiction between Beluvai and Sanoor GPs had led to the problem. Finally, the NH Department has embarked upon the works with the co-operation of the Sanoor gram panchayat.

Moodbidri forest officials meanwhile said the task of cutting off branches of huge trees which are dangerous during monsoons, will be taken up after consultations with the respective gram panchayats.
