Yet another ‘Swacha Grama’ is stinking

VITTAL : What is the criteria adopted while choosing any village for the Swacha Grama (Clean Village) Award? Well, one has to ask the elected representatives of the gram panchayats concerned to find an answer. Vittal Gram Panchayat was one of the gram panchayats which bagged the Swacha Grama Ward some time back. But the situation in Vittal seem to be contradicting with piles of garbage seen at places in the town.

The Panchayat which has invited the ire of the locals by dumping garbage recklessly at Palike some time back, has now stopped disposing garbage for want of an ideal location.

One can find garbage dumped at places in the town resulting in unbearable stench. The town is also facing menace of mosquitoes even during the day time.

Just, a few days ago, the DK Zilla Panchayat bagged the Nirmala Grama Award and the ZP chief received the award at the hands of the Governor. Incidentally, the ZP chief hails from Vittal and travels to Mangalore from here daily. People are wondering if the Nirmala Grama Award was given in recognition of this ‘wonderful’ achievement in Vittal.
