PUTTUR : Hundreds of Dalit laid siege to the gram panchayat office on Monday, agitated over the fact that the memorandum which they had submitted to the panchayat authorities three days ago requesting against granting permit to open a wine shop at Tingalady, was found at a local bar.
The agitators demanded that the memorandum submitted by them be produced. On realizing that the memorandum was not in the panchayat office, a panchayat staff rushed to Kumbra and brought the memorandum back.
The agitators also have a doubt if the panchayat staff, particularly the PDO has succumbed to pressure from the wine shop owner and was favoring the opening of the wine shop which was opposed by villages.
Villagers have also demanded a probe as to how the memorandum submitted by them to the panchayat authorities had landed in the bar.
Meanwhile, the panchayat president B Jayaram Rai has assured to conduct an investigation and also to initiate legal action against any erring gram panchayat staff.
