Spurt in violence worries Gangolli residents

KUNDAPUR : Gangolli which was a quite peaceful town in Kundapur taluk till recently, is now slowly turning into a communally sensitive area, much to the worry of the local villagers. In a latest case, a group of unidentified assailants had attacked two youth who were on way to masjid, in front of the SV College. The incident took place on Monday night.

Of course, some minor cases of clashes used to be reported from this town, but of late there has been a spurt in the same. Though a police station was opened in Gangolli some time back much to the relief of the locals, problems began ever since it was shifted to the far off Trasi.

Locals say the police have never considered seriously some minor communal strifes, cases of cattle smuggling, attack on glass cases in front of churches, damage to masjid name boards, stoning incidents etc.The demand to have adequate police personnel at the police outpost which has been opened on a temporary basis on the first floor of the post office building, has not been fulfilled. Locals who say the outpost was serving no purpose, have demanded a permanent police outpost.

Another grouse of the locals is that senior police officials head towards Gangolli only in case of some major disturbance and that no effort was also made to hold public contact meets and instill confidence in the minds of the public and also to chalk out measures to avert clashes.
