MANGALORE: Subhash Padil, the co-convener of the city unit of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike, has been considered the mastermind behind the Morning Mist Homestay attack. This is how he evolved as notorious attacker in the region.

Subhash Padil and Kati alias Ganesh have today grown as notorious criminals and are the seeds of the inflammatory speeches of Kalladka Prabhaker Bhat and Jagadish Karanth.

Years ago, Subhash who was an ordinary auto rickshaw driver at Suraj autorickshaw parking at Milagres. His name was first heard in the raid on the bus carrying employees of saree palace in 2005. On realizing that Hindu girls and Muslim boys employed in Saree Palace were on a tour, the bus was intercepted near Padil and the occupants attacked. Then Subhash and his team was in Bhajrangdal. If Subhash was the main accused in the Iqbal murder case in BC Road, Kati had aided him.

When Prasad Attavar came out of the Bhajrangdal to join Sri Rama Sene, even Subhash Team joined the Sri Rama Sene. Then took place the infamous pub attack of 2009 bringing disrepute to Mangalore at the international level.

However, when he was in the Sri Rama Sene, there arose a clash between criminal friends over the account of the funds raised for Huli Vesha of Attavar. When Prasad Attavar was in prison for four months after he came out of Bhajrangdal, it was Subhash who was instrumental in raising funds for his release. There even arose a veiled war within the Sri Rama Sene over the allegation that he had pocketed lakhs of rupees in an under construction apartment row of a Muslim builder near Padangady. Finally, this made the Subhash team defect to the Hindu Jagarana Vedike.

Soon, his lifestyle changed. He purchased an Alto car and saw to it that his father who did a security job stayed back at home. He began to collect funds on the pretext of protecting Hinduism and now is behind bars in the home stay raid case.

Sources say Subhash also has underworld links. There are people who saw Subhash enquire the well being of Dinesh Shetty, an aide of Ravi Poojari, accused in the advocate Naushad murder case, when the former was produced before the Mangalore Court on July 18. Jail records also say he has been to Parappana Agrahara in Bangalore to meet Dinesh Shetty several times. Jail records in Mangalore too reveal that he has even been visiting the accused in the case of the murder of drugs peddler Nooru alias Nooruddin.

It further remains no secret that it was this Subhash and Co which had fought to secure bail for Cable Santhu alas Karkala Santhu in the fake note circulation case, when he had been imprisoned for 10 years by the Mangalore Court.

His team is also facing at least seven to eight murder attempt cases. Some of them are even accused in cases of drug peddling, mobile theft and pick pocketing in railway station.

The police despite being aware of all this, had failed to suppress them and are now indirectly responsible for the recent home stay attack case.
