MOODBIDRI : The student strength in a Zilla Panchayat Lower Primary School at Makki in Shirthady village which had dipped to just three a couple of years ago bringing the school on the verge of closure, has now increased to 32, after two warring teachers of this school were transferred.
The school, reports said had just three students in the year 2006 after parents refrained from sending their children to this school, which had two teachers who were more interested in clashing with each other rather than imparting knowledge to the students. Fed up with the strife, many students dropped out of this school to get admitted to some other school. The student strength rose to 13 last year after the two teachers were transferred and teachers from Koppala and Kashipatna were transferred to this place.
The efforts of the two teachers in encouraging students to enroll to this school has been praised by the villagers. But the only drawback has been the lack of adequate facilities in the school. Though Makki school has 1.4 acre of government land, not much development has taken place. The school compound wall work has been left half way through. An Anganavadi is also run in the same building and there is a need for a separate building for this Anganavadi.
