MANGALORE : Several including former minister Krishna Palemar have not cleared their water bills to the tune of several crores of rupees, thereby incurring loss of revenue to the MCC.
According to official sources, over 275 persons owed Rs 1,81,38,981 to the MCC by way of water bills since 2007. The arrears of Palemar is Rs 86,942. He who had availed water connection for Ashok Enclave Apartment, has not cleared the water bill, MCC sources said
Topping the list of defaulters is Kamath Metal Works-Rs 99,894, then follows PK Hussain Kutti, of Pavoor Complex, Mission Street-Rs 98,913.
Similarly even the Karnataka Land Army and PWD owes Rs 92,681 and Rs 92,718 respectively. As far as the religious institutions are concerned Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple owes Rs 67,480 and Badria Jumma Masjid –Rs 65,817. These are just a few and many more are in the line.
Meanwhile, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar has said the MCC was ensuring steps to collect the pending water bills and exuded confidence that it would succeed in its mission.
Palemar denies reports: However, former minister Krishna Palemar has denied that he had not cleared water bills of the MCC. He also clarified that the water bill was paid no sooner the demand notice was served. At the same time he said his office staff had not made any effort to get cleared the documents after paying the water bill.
