Cattle transportation issue leads to clash in Kalladka

BANTWAL : Tension prevailed in Kalladka town on Saturday night following a group clash that broke out after a cattle transportation tempo which was being chased by Hindu organizations, collided with a two wheeler of activists of a Hindu organization.

It is learnt, the speeding tempo was chased by Hindu organization activists from Soorikumeru and was intercepted near the fish market at Kalladka where the tempo driver was attacked. This was questioned by some people leading to altercation, clash, stoning and flinging of soda bottles. There was a virtual street fight for about 15 minutes, eyewitnesses said. Reports said five persons were injured one of them seriously. Several vehicles too were damaged.

Shopkeepers in the area downed their shutters and rushed helter skelter out of fear following the failure of the cops to arrive even half an hour after the clash broke out. Finally the cops who arrived, dispersed the mob by resorting to a lathi charge.

SP Abhishek Goel and Puttur DySP Anucheth were at the spot throughout the night. Strict vigil was maintained to avert any further untoward incident.

Latest reports say a few people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
