ZP members sore over lack of teachers in govt schools

UDUPI: The inadequacy of teachers in Kannada medium schools of the district led to heated debate at the Zilla Panchayat meeting held here on Saturday.

Several members raised the issue of lack of teachers in Kannada schools as well as the inadequate infrastructural facilities in the government schools. Even the schools in Naxal affected areas of Byndoor were facing from shortage of teachers, members pointed out.

Yet another member Ganapathi pointed out that there were no teachers at all in schools opened in Naxal affected areas under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

Reacting to the complaints, DDPI Nagendra Madhyastha said the problem would be solved once the around 24 government higher primary schools in the district were upgraded. He said plans were afoot to upgrade schools having 50 students in seventh standard, by introducing eighth standard in such schools.
