MANGALORE : Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh seems to have finally risen to the occasion to ensure steps to adhere to the SHRC ruling on the police atrocities case involving former SI Prakash.

The Commissioner is learnt to have written a letter to MESCOM directing it to deduct the penalty amount imposed by SHRC on the ex-SI from his salary as he is presently working for the vigilance squad of the MESCOM. This action comes after there were several media reports on the failure of the cops to act as per the orders of the SHRC.

Karavali Ale, the sister publication of The Canara Times could get hold of a copy of the acknowledgement of this letter which mentions the date as June 8, 2012. The same has been signed by an officer on behalf the Commissioner. It has also been mentioned that a copy of the same has been given to the victims and Kankanady inspector.

The general feeling is that the Commissioner would not have faced criticism had he done this before hand itself when Prakash was serving in the Commissionerate limits. However, the silence of the Commissioner with regard to the departmental probe which he has assured to conduct into the case, has surprised many.
