UDUPI : The Nagarikara Hitarakshana Vedike of Gopalpura ward in Udupi has alleged that the ward was facing cleanliness problems due to the presence of several multi-storied apartments, commercial complexes, hotels, shops and business establishments.

Speaking to reporters, Richard Rebello, President of the Vedike said wells in the ward have been contaminated due to the waste water of the hotels and flats which was released in the open.

He also urged the TMC to direct the apartment complexes to have their own sewage treatment plant until the TMC made arrangements for underground drainage facility. He further demanded steps to see that waste waters from all buildings and hotels was released into the TMC treatment plant through a temporary pipeline.

According to the Vedike, if the ward already had 14 multistoried residential apartments and four to five bars and hotels, 31 more residential apartment projects are waiting for no-objection certificates from the TMC.
