BANTWAL : The Mangalore Principal Sessions Court has granted interim bail to Suresh V Baliga, jeweller of Bantwal in connection with the case of firing at Bantwal’s senior councillor A Govind Prabhu.
The counsel for Baliga had argued in the court that Suresh Baliga had no intention to kill Prabhu, but had only fired in the air in self-defence. He also argued that Prabhu and his brother Venkatramana had lodged a false complaint with a view to tarnish Baliga’s image owing to a personal enmity against him with regard to a pending civil suit.
In Baliga’s words, he had to fire in the air in self-defence on the night of November 21 at around 11.35 when he found Govind Prabhu and Namdev Prabhu hitting his elder brother Nagendra Baliga. According to him they even threatened him by wielding a sword and said that he would be finished within a month
