Moodbidri constable backing goonda elements, alleges Dalit leader

MANGALORE : A police constable of Moodbidri station has been accused of backing goonda elements and thus seeing to it that no complaint was lodged against the goonda forces by the Dalits got registered.

Raising this issue at the SC/ST grievance redressal meeting, MA Naik, a Dalit leader alleged that the constable Dhanraj patronized goondas and saw to it that they came out clean even if someone lodged complaint against them. He also demanded the transfer of the constable.

Naik further alleged that the police investigtion into the recent suspicious murder of two Dalit women has not made any headway.

Responding to the complaint, DCP Dharmaiah said an enquiry would be held with regard to the allegations against Dhanraj and action would follow in case he was found guilty,

DSS State Committee Member Keshava said though the government was providing loans for SC/ST people to purchase autorickshaws, the RTO was refusing permits. However, DCP said the Police department cannot issue instructions to the RTA, but however can discuss the matter with the Regional Transport authorities.

Lingappa Nantur, Secretary of Dalit Rights Action Committee, urged that the Dalits residing in government lands be issued title deeds and added that in case they are evicted then they should be eligible for compensation.
