Brahmavar sugar factory watchman attacked : Ex-Udupi ZP chief among 6 accused

UDUPI : The watchman of the Brahmavar Sugar Factory was grievously attacked on Sunday by a gang of six persons including a former president of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat who is also a sitting member and two of his family members. The injured watchman has been identified as Chudappa Suvarna (46), a resident of Uppoor Uggelbettu. The accused are BN Shanker Poojari, sitting ZP member and former president of Udupi ZP, his relatives Veerappa Poojari, Ritesh Poojari and three others. It is learnt that the accused, engaged in sand business, attacked the watchman who had earlier objected to their moves to level the land belonging to the sugar factory to store sand.
Suvarna has been admitted to a hospital in Brahmavar and a case has been registered in Brahmavar police station.
