MANGALORE : It has come to light of late that the Haleyangady Gram Panchayat President
who had been arrested on December 28 by the police on charges of manipulating documents
to issue fake license to the Nishanth Bar operating in a residential area in Haleyangady, has
even quietly come out on bail. Salian was facing the allegation of issuing a fake license to the
Nishanth Bar run by Lancy Menezes. There was also an allegation that the GP chief had secured
a bribe of Rs one lakh for the purpose.
It is learnt, the trade license given to one Taranath whose establishment already exists, was given
to Nishanth Bar too. No sooner it came to light that it was Salian’s deed, one Abdul Hameed who
was facing problems due to the bar, had lodged a criminal complaint. The police had arrested
Salian on December 28. However, he had come out on bail the very same day with the help of
one Ravindra Suvarna.
The Nishanth Bar is located in Ward no 1 of Haleyangady. The bar which was earlier
functioning in Ward 3 had to face opposition after it was shifted to Ward 1. The GP chief is now
facing criminal proceedings for granting a fake license even when the panchayat was discussing
whether the license should be renewed or not.
