UPPINANGADY: Six students of the Uppinangady Government First Grade College were injured in

a clash that broke out between two student groups of the college over the issue of a lady teacher of the

college, on February 3, Friday.

The injured namely Vasanth, Nagesh, Venugopal and three others, all final year BA students, have been

admitted to the Adarsha Hospital. In a complaint lodged with the police, they have alleged that a group of

about 25 students attacked them for questioning a few students who were creating unnecessary clamour in

the classroom by hurling baseless allegations against a teacher named Latha.

Their complaint with the police said ?Final year BA students namely Asif, Nawaz. Farooq, Mustafa,

Nawaz and others attacked us when we were standing on the college verandah.?

Even students of the rival gang namely Hussian Ummar Farooq and Mustafa who have got themselves

admitted to the hospital, have lodged a counter com plaint. Their complaint said so- ?Our college teacher

Latha discriminated between Hindu and Muslim students during her class and even used to say that they

were not cultured by giving some bad examples. We had objected this and had even brought this matter

to the notice of the college Principal Nataraj. Infuriated by this, a group of around 30 students including

Vasanth, Nagesh, Kaushik, Santosh, Nagaprasad, Abhilash, Lokesh, Venugopal and Harish attacked us.?

Police who have registered both the complaints are conducting the investigations. Several students have

been booked in this connection. Students of the college also boycotted classes and demanded that action

be taken against some fanatic forces which were creating terror in the college campus. The students have

also threatened to continue to boycott classes if their demand went unheeded.

Principal speaks : Speaking to The Canara Times, the College Principal Nataraj said ? The unhealthy

atmosphere in the college campus since some time has come to my notice. I wanted to control it in

the initial stage itself, but it has now gone out of control. Disciplinary action will be taken against the

students concerned with permission of the college management.?
