MANGALORE: The District Congress would never agree for the implementation of the Project
of diverting Netravathi river, the lifeline of the coastal district, declared DCC President B
Ramanatha Rai.
Addressing press persons in Mangalore, he said the Congress would continue to oppose the
project whoever thinks of implementing it be it the state or the C entre.? We have already held
discussions on the project with intellectuals and environmentalists, he said and added in case
such a project was implemented then there was every chance of depletion of underground water
resources. He said the Congress would oppose the project even if it was proved that it would
cause no harm.
He also said he had no information of the Chief Minister convening any meeting to discuss the
issue. Rai further condemned the police atrocities on Bajpe Gram Panchayat Chief. He also
informed that the Party would be holding a protest in front of the DC office on January 20
condemning the Sindhagi case of hoisting the Pakistani flag.
