MANGALORE: Though the newly elected Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel recently aroused much hopes saying he would give top priority towards seeing to it that a day train between Mangalore and Bangalore was introduced, official sources reveal that there is no possibility of this project becoming a reality at least in the near future.

According to the Commissioner for Railway Safety it was impossible to run a day train in this railway line that passes through the Ghat section and that certain restrictive measures have to be initiated before running a passenger train on the Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya ghat section.

This information was provided to ITI College lecturers’ association treasurer Chandrahas as per the Right to Information Act.

Moreover, the information has revealed that though the commencement of a day train was not unfeasible, the authorities do not want to come in the way of the goods train services on the route which is all likely to be affected in case day train services were commenced.

Meanwhile, the Puttur Railway Yatri Sangha which has been demanding day train services on the route since long is unhappy with the developments.

According to Anil Hegde, the technical advisor of the Sangha, there is possibility of running day train service on the route after initiating certain precautionary measures. He was also of the opinion that it was not proper to fix the speed limit at 30 kms per hour at some stretches on the route.

Considering all the above aspects it can only be said that the commencement of a day train on the route would continue to remain a mirage.
