BANGALORE : Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has assured to initiate suitable action
with regard to the Mulki police firing case that took place four years ago wherein the then SP
Dayananda instructed his gunman to fire at two innocent youths using the AK 47 rifle, by
flouting all norms.
The incident had taken place in 2006, when Dayananda was the DK SP. When a protest march
was being held opposing the murder of BJP leader Sukhananda Shetty at Mulki, the SP had
directed his gunman to fire at the protestors using the AK 47 rifle. The firing had killed two
innocent youth namely Premanath and Dinesh.
The PUCL which had waged a legal war had demanded suspension of the tainted officer.
The present CM DV Sadananda Gowda who has now risen to the occasion has said ? I am aware
of the incident. I am for a review of the case and want suitable action to be taken against the
guilty.?
The PUCL had complained to the National Human Rights Commission against the then SP
Dayananda in connection with the case.
Dayananda?s act was in clear violation of a home ministry circular issued in 1990. Yet another
circular issued in 2002-2003 had clearly stated that the AK 47 rifle should not be targeted
against the public during clashes, or communal riots. Dayananda is presently promoted as Joint
Commissioner and it is an irony that the government had promoted this officer who had clearly
violated a government ruling.
BV Seetaram, Chief of The Canara Times and Karavali Ale and Vice President of the PUCL
has said ? This incident is nothing new for the CM. He could have seen to it that action followed
against the officer, when he was the party chief itself. Dayananda should immediately be
suspended. Thanks to the CM who has finally risen to the occasion.?
Seetaram has further urged that the CM should study all records pertaining to this case and
initiate action against Dayanand without any delay.
Dayanand had threatened to send DV to jail : When CM Sadananda Gowda was the MP in
2004, he had led a padayatra for the cause of areca growers. Dayananda who was the DK SP
during this time, had intervened in this issue and had instructed DV to suspend his agitation. But,
when Gowda refused, there was a verbal duel. Dayananda had then threatened to ?send DV to
jail.? Gowda too had then challenged Dayananda to do so if he can.
PUCL to file PIL : It has been learnt that the People?s Union for Civil Liberties(PUCL) would
shortly be filing a public interest litigation in the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the seven
encounter death cases that took place in DK and Belgaum when Dayananda served as SP there.
