PUTTUR : Rumours are doing the rounds that Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje was lobbying
with the CM to select a private banker of Puttur for the Rajyotsava Award this year. It is
being said that this banker, who was also a close associate of Shobha was patronizing all BJP
programmes and was also active in public life on the pretext of social service activities.
It is being said that this banker who raised the issue with Shobha at a function in Puttur had
reportedly promised to help the party during next elections if he was selected for the award.
Sources said the minister who conceded to the request promised to make efforts.
But, on the other hand, CM Sadananda Gowda has decided to reduce the number of Rajyotsava
Awardees to 50 this year and therefore, it is believed that the banker may not be able to bag the
award this time.
During his recent visit to Sullia, the CM had also said that the Rajyotasava Award should go only
to the deserving or else it would lose its value. It is now left to be seen if the CM will keep up his
words or will choose undeserving candidates for the award.
